    Veterans Day: Jayme Fisher What branch of the military did you serve in, and for how long? Marine Corps, 4 active years. What were your duties? Artillery mechanic, Armorer What inspired you to join the military? Feeling of Community, belonging, all while pushing it to the limit. What does Veterans Day mean to you personally? I remember my Grandfather, who was a Marine before me, as well as my fellow Marines I served with. I thank all of those who gave their life to defend our Constitution from ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. What skills or values from your service do you apply in your role here? Judgement, decisiveness, integrity, dependability, Tact, initiative, unselfishness, caring, loyalty, and enthusiasm. In your opinion, what do Veterans bring to the workplace? Experience you cannot put a price on- Veterans were willing to give everything, up to and including their life. What’s a memorable experience from your time in service? Gearing up Military Police Marines with their gear, gun, bullets, and pepper spray, everyday for a year, ensuring safety on our base. (They ended up stopping a potential mass shooter at the gates.) What’s your proudest accomplishment — either in or out of uniform? Becoming a Father. Bringing a baby into the world is a life changing experience, and while not in the immediate plan when it happened, I embraced it and now have 2 beautiful children (one who gets his DRIVER’S LICENSE this December…) One of our “Safran Together” values is Succeeding Together.     Veterans Day: Richard Robida What branch of the military did you serve in, and for how long? US Marine Corps (99-06) Medically Retired What were your duties? I held 2 Military Occupation Specialties. 6672 (Aviation Supply Specialist) where I supported Fixed Wing and Rotor Wing Squadrons with aircraft parts, support equipment and more to ensure mission readiness. I was also a Primary Marksmanship Instructor (8531) responsible for providing technical instruction and training on Marine Corps weapons to ensure combat readiness. Marines are required to qualify annually at distances of 200, 300 and 500 yards with open sights/iron sites (no scope). Stationed and deployed overseas in Okinawa, Japan, Guam, Australia and Korea, and Stateside in San Diego and Texas What inspired you to join the military? My father served 21 years in the Navy, and my older brother joined the Army prior to my graduation. We always knew education was the key to success, and the military afforded the opportunity to earn a degree at little to no cost, as well as serve the nation. I chose the Marine Corps because I wanted to be the best, and when I finished my service, I could tell future employers that I served in the greatest and most professional fighting force in the world. Semper Fidelis! What does Veterans Day mean to you personally? It means generations of selfless sacrifice, even when those sacrifices are not always known or understood by others. Veteran’s Day is a moment to reflect and honor those who volunteered and gave up their rights as they knew them for a greater good. What drew you to Safran? I actually sold MRO products to Safran, TurboMeca, MicroTurbo and Sagem Aviation in Grand Prairie, TX as a Grainger Account Manager, so when the opportunity was available, I leaned in with the hopes of joining such a large, well known entity and company. What skills or values from your service do you apply in your role here? Accountability, leadership, teamwork, punctuality, respect for authority, confidence are some that come to mind. In your opinion, what do Veterans bring to the workplace? You intrinsically get an employee that understands sacrifice and working problems and tasks to completion, not just to check a box. Most veterans have also lead teams and departments, so whether they are in a leadership role or not, you get someone who can provide valuable input and feedback to move the dial. What’s a memorable experience from your time in service? Oddly enough, seeing major storms on the other side of the world was eye opening, I grew up in N. Charleston, SC, so I saw major hurricanes growing up, but while stationed in Okinawa Japan, I went through 2 Super Typhoons, and to witness the wrath, but then the immediate snap to action and mission focused mentality, while in the aftermath, was something to behold. (Not to mention having to eat MREs for days from pallets….fun times) What’s your proudest accomplishment — either in or out of uniform? Accomplishing my goal of higher education. Raised by a single mother and career teacher with 3 Master’s Degrees, finishing my degree was the goal, even after I was Medically retired. With my GI Bill and additional Veterans Affairs benefits, I was able to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in 2011, then went on to get my MBA in 2015. Since my older brother did the same, my mother is the happiest and proudest she can be, still. As an added bonus, my benefits are also paying for my 20 year old daughter’s education as well. One of our “Safran Together” values is Succeeding Together. How do you embody this in your role? I work to relevantly engage with our customers to provide support and solutions to their needs, and often times, this requires multiple contact points (Apps Engineers, Sales Support, Field Support, Customer Support etc). I make it a point to align our customers directly to the source so we can synergistically come up with an answer or solution. This leads to multiple touch points for the customer, often times with the same person or team of individuals. I have had customers, on numerous occasions mention or ask for specific team members, as they are comfortable and have trust in partnering directly with our team.   • U.S. Air Force Procures Orolia’s CRPA Testing Solution

    Orolia Defense & Security was selected by the U.S. Air Force Guided Weapons Evaluation Facility to deliver a BroadSim Wavefront for CRPA testing of networked, collaborative, and autonomous weapon systems being developed under the Golden Horde program. U.S. Air Force Procures Orolia’s CRPA Testing Solution ROCHESTER, NY, February 15, 2022 DISTRIBUTION A: Approved for public release; distribution unlimited Orolia Defense & Security , the No. 1 provider of software-defined simulation solutions for navigation warfare, was selected by the U.S. Air Force Guided Weapons Evaluation Facility to deliver a BroadSim Wavefront. BroadSim Wavefront is a pillar of innovation among Orolia’s Skydel-powered advanced GNSS simulators. The GWEF provides laboratory testing and simulation tools for developing precision-guided weapon technology, including a comprehensive scope of GPS/INS systems and integrated components like sensors, signals of opportunity and Controlled Reception Pattern Antennas. CRPAs are fundamental in many platforms due to their enhanced protection against electronic attacks in NAVWAR environments. The Broadsim Wavefront simulator will be integrated into a test environment for networked, collaborative and autonomous weapon systems being developed under the Golden Horde program. Golden Horde is one of four Air Force Vanguard programs designed to rapidly advance emerging weapons systems and warfighting concepts through prototype and experimentation. Of the several capabilities the GWEF required, features such as low-latency hardware-in-the-loop, automated calibration, and the flexibility to quickly integrate future signals and sensors were the most critical and serve as a key reason Orolia’s BroadSim Wavefront was selected. This system will also be capable of testing eight-element CRPA systems, eight simultaneous Fixed Radiation Pattern Antenna systems, or a combination of CRPA and FRPA systems. “When designing BroadSim Wavefront, we re-imagined every aspect for the user,” said Tyler Hohman, director of products for Orolia Defense & Security. “Though the GWEF unit contains eight nodes (corresponding to each antenna element), it can be scaled from four to 16 antenna elements. One of the greatest advancements is our continuous phase monitoring and compensation technique. It automatically monitors, aligns and adjusts the phase of each RF output continuously throughout the duration of a scenario.” Watch the Skydel Wavefront calibration tutorial on Orolia Defense & Security’s YouTube channel. “Gone are the days of re-calibrating each frequency on your system, limiting your scenario duration or re-calibration every time you power cycle your system,” added Hohman. “Simply turn the system on, start the scenario, and your Wavefront system phase aligns and remains aligned for the entirety of the test.” Leveraging the Skydel Simulation Engine , BroadSim Wavefront also supports high-dynamics, MNSA M-Code, alternative RF navigation, open-source IMU plug-in and 1000Hz iteration update rate. “Because of the software-defined architecture, many upgrades don’t require additional hardware, which has been a crucial advantage for customers who are already using this solution,” Hohman said. Their contributions deserve recognition, and this week we are honored to spotlight one of our own: Brent Abbott. This year’s theme, “Design Your Future”, is both a call to action and a celebration of the limitless possibilities in engineering. In part two, we’re diving into the real world of engineering with Brent Abbott, sharing invaluable advice, strategies to stay motivated, and lessons that have shaped his journey. Whether you are embarking on your engineering path or curious about the field, this conversation offers insights that are inspiring and useful. Turning Challenges into Triumphs Challenges are an inevitable part of any profession, but in engineering —where deadlines are tight, obstacles are constant, and solutions must be delivered — overcoming them is a necessity and an achievement. “I think in a similar vein, when you feel like the cards are stacked against you in terms of time to develop something, but you really want to get the greatest thing out and developed, I'd say balancing that act of balancing the scheduled deliverables, but also the pushing the new state of the art technologies they want to get out the door really helps drive what we do here as a business and what I do in my own life. So , solving the complex challenges and understanding how we fit what was effectively, I guess the size of a piece of paper, in terms of a schematic or like a design, or like, a hardware solution down into that of a business card I would say is really one of my proudest moments from an engineering standpoint. And it was a really hard problem to solve too, but ultimately did it, and that was great.” In the moment, challenges can feel relentless, but they empower you to transform. Each obstacle you conquer builds new skills, strengthens resilience, and pushes you to look beyond what you thought was impossible. Looking back, you will realize that those moments were steps to shape who you are today. Understanding the Problem Rather than Jumping into a Solution While Brent excels in building innovative solutions, his success comes from a fundamental principle — understanding the problem before jumping into a solution. This mindset has guided him throughout his engineering journey, shaping the way he tackles challenges and drives progress. “The first piece of advice that I got as an engineer when I first started working was: to always understand the problem, rather than jumping into the solution . The idea behind that is that, while we love solving complex problems, we always want to say ‘All right, let's just start trying things now.’ It always helps to take a step back and understand what the problems are, so you can take a methodical approach to solving those problems. If you already start down a path that you find might not be the right path you might get off into the right or otherwise turn left when you were supposed to turn right for that example, right? So if we kind of take a step back and understand the problem at a higher level, you can start choosing which path to take first and then when you know that you're going down that wrong path, you can always backtrack and move a different way. In the same vein, I'd say, when you’re down that path and you realize that that was the wrong path, always ensure that you're learning from that mistake and moving in a different direction. So that's to say, failure is an option. Learn from your failure and always move forward from that.” Failure is not the end; it is a part of the journey. When you shift your perspective and see failure as progress rather than a setback, it becomes a powerful force that drives you toward greater success. Staying Motivated Through Failure We’ve all experienced failure — but the real challenge is how we push forward after facing it repeatedly. In engineering, setbacks are inevitable, but they are also steppingstones toward innovation and success. So, how do we stay motivated when things don’t go as planned? “If you are able to remain optimistic and realistic in your approach that definitely helps out in terms of being able to continue that progress and understand you know, at the end of the day, we're still marching towards the same goal over the same conclusion, so even if you veer off left or off right you can always course correct and get back in the path that you want to take anyway. And then don't let it discourage you when you do fail because you know, it's always a learning moment. There's always an opportunity to do something different. No one is going to say you did terribly, because at the end of the day we’re all one happy team that’s really trying to bring everyone together to do something as a group, rather than an individual.” Each attempt, each lesson, and each step forward brings you closer to success. By maintaining a forward-thinking mindset, you build resilience, refine your skills, and get to contribute to something great. Shaping Ideas into Reality Engineers are constantly designing and building incredible innovations, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask Brent: What is the coolest thing you have ever built or designed? "The coolest thing I designed, actually was —so it was cool to me because I was a kid and not necessarily an adult, but I was able to design like a miniature robot car that was able to use motion sensors, proximity sensors and infrared light sensors, had motors for—it was a wheel—so had motors and whatnot, but it was a small robot car and I was able to program it so that it would follow lines as well as if it got too close to wall it would backtrack and go in a different direction. And it was cool to me because I think that's what kind of jump-started — my interest in solving complex problems. But also being a kid, it was like, oh, this is pretty cool. I think it's still in my parent's house in my room but yeah that fun. That was a good time. That was cool to me.” Looking back on past projects, whether it’s an early creation or recent innovation, is a powerful reminder of growth. Each project builds on the last, shaping new skills and expanding what’s possible. Engineers like you are constantly pushing boundaries and transforming ideas into reality. Recognizing the Imprint of Engineers Brent’s journey is one of persistence, collaboration, and leadership — qualities that define great engineers. As we celebrate his story, we also recognize and appreciate all engineers who push the boundaries of what’s possible and for that, we say thank you.
