Safran Presents on Next-Generation MEMS Gyro at Joint Navigation Conference

ROCHESTER, NY - June 2, 2026

This week, Safran Federal Systems presented on its patented MEMS resonator gyroscope (MRG) at the Joint Navigation Conference (JNC) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The next-generation MEMS Gyroscope built upon the principles of Safran’s patented HRG technology and combining with MEMS gyroscope principles suited for defense applications requiring low-SWaP and high-volume solutions.

Built for the most demanding environments, MRGs take advantage of:

  • Safran’s field-proven HRG principles, assisting the transition into Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) products

  • Safran’s heritage of delivering MEMS-based sensors in its STIM and accelerometer product lines

  • Boasts 0.003°/√hr ARW, 0.05°/hr bias stability

  • Mass-produceable and meets the growing demand for near-navigation gyroscopes. MRG is silicon based and Safran has matured a manufacturing process to meet market demand for MRG based inertial products.

  • Significant cost savings planned to be passed to the platform

  • Unparalleled performance for Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) package

MRG is an exciting breakthrough in MEMS technology, which has a wide range of application to platforms and systems” said Jon Leombrone, Executive Vice President of Navigation Systems at Safran Federal Systems. “MRG’s suit emerging missile and unmanned applications where cost, availability and SWaP are critical to mission success.”

Safran Federal Systems will showcase MRG at the Joint Navigation Conference (JNC), Booth 301. Attendees can explore product overviews and engage directly with our engineers and solution architects to discuss a broad range of navigation needs.
